We began having summer and winter vacations after Sabrina started first grade, we no longer have the leisure to travel whenever we want, we obliged to the school academic calendar and try to plan our trips accordingly. I was thrilled to learn that we had a whole month off in Jan/Feb. as kids winter vacation.
We have made Verbier an annual destination since its easier for us to prepare and travel with the girls in the cold if we go back to the same place, the chalet we choose is a cozy 2 bedroom located at the heart of the town and a 10 min. walk to the ski lifts. This year marked our 4th visit to Verbier and since we are familiar with the town, everything seems more convenient.
The forecast has not been too accurate this year, we have been expecting snow for a few days yet it turned out sunshine for the entire first week, we were very lucky with the weather and there were only 3 days of big snow during our stay yet big enough to last the slope for a while, once there was almost zero visibility on the slope and the cafe was surprisingly packed at 10am, one day the snow was about 30-40cm high which made it a nightmare for toddlers to ski down.
Due to low season, Sabrina and Chloe were put in the same ski lessons which should have been a taboo since they are 2 years apart. This winter was Chloe’s official first ski year although she did a bit of the ski last year in the nursery slope. Chloe did excellent on the slope, she jumped from level 2 to 4. Sabrina got slowed down a bit while skiing with the 4 year old when she should have been doing parallel ski already on the slope. The girls were extremely happy with their ski instructor Maddy while Sabrina took several private lessons with her favorite man, Sasha. Victor and I did vigorous work on the slope, we skied morning and afternoon which at a point got us quite exhausted and didnt give us enough time to enjoy lunch, we will cut down the ski a bit next year so we can take the time to enjoy some good food after a morning ski.
Although we come back every year yet I’ve never ceased to be amazed at how beautiful the mountains can be, how tranquil it is to be soaked in nature, how peaceful and sensational it is to be immersed in the snow on the altitude.
It snowed nonstop before we left Verbier and sunshined on the day of our departure which of course made it even harder to say goodbye. We left for Geneva where I met up my long lost college dining buddy Miki, the last time I saw here was 20 years ago and how funny she stumbled upon my blog by accident and found me.
Kissing goodbye and until next year!
