We just came back from a barefoot luxury vacation in Thailand: Soneva Kiri. Soneva Kiri is located on Ko Kood island, the forth largest island in Thailand situated on the East coast in the Koh Chang Marine National Park. It is an hour away by plane from Bangkok with another 5 min speedboat ride and is regarded as Thailand’s last unspoilt island by many.
The resort has gone to great length to blend its villas into the natural beauty of its surroundings by using ecologically sustainable design and selecting eco-friendly construction materials.
The devil is in the details or in this case the angel. The minute touches throughout the resorts permeate the soft but firm presence of the GM in blending the great software of attentive, professional while not intrusive service into the magically enchanting beauty of the hardware of its facilities.
We did the famous treepod dining, we sit in the bamboo basket which rises up to 12m to the treetops with a panoramic view of the surroundings and the waiter arrives by trapeze to serve the food. We had lunch and the chef custom made our food as we requested, spaghetti bolognese for the kids, spaghetti with olive oil and chili for me and healthy vegetarian pizza for hubby, it was delicious, the chef used the freshest produce grown from their very own organic gardens.
There are several restaurants with a wide selection of wine and liquor as well as many wine tasting and fine dining events held at the resort from time to time.
The resort was developed on 150 acres of untouched lush tropical rainforest which slopes down to a private beach surrounded with palm trees.
We of course as the sun worshipers and ocean dwellers spent a large part of our time on the sandy beach. Just spending the time dipping in the sea water, building up sand castles with the kids and emptying our mind is a luxury itself.
Koh Chang National Park offers two-dozen dive sites down to 30 metres and is probably one of the most amazing places to explore the under world.
We only did one dive and it was my first wreck dive.
We were in the water for 45 min.and went all the way down to 27.4 in depth with 15m visibility. It was an awesome experience, I cant wait for my next wreck dive! it was an amazing.
Treasures of the land and sea are in the case of this resort complemented by the marvels of the infinite cosmos courtesy of its very own observatory. Guests are introduced to the fascinating world of astronomy and the beauty of a pristine night sky as the resident astronomer points out Jupiter, the Orion Belt or the Big Dipper to awed amateurs young and old while during the day the same expert guides them in admiring of the corona, the flares and storms of the sun god.
The resort is super kids friendly with never ending activities for them: the famous DEN is a manta-shaped bamboo play house open every day for children. A one of a kind place for kids to paint or play or cook or get wild with professional caretakers, basically kids can do anything there with a long slide extending outside as if they have escaped to another world of their own.
A special note to everyone’s favorite: Its very own creation on over 65 choices of home made ice cream/sorbet and the unique chocolate room.
We adore Soneva’s concept of No news, no shoes, why? Because it is the ultimate holidays we long for, the kind of vacation we pamper ourselves after all the hard work at home. Indulge in luxury and forget about reality.
